FaithLaunch Conference
John Perks
Not too long before the COVID virus pushed us into lockdowns and isolation, a team of WCF members came up with an idea that intended to bring young people together to help them build meaningful and enduring lives of faith. The program was called Faith Launch.
Originally it was hoped that Faith Launch would be an in-person event, but it had to quickly adjust to an online format when COVID made gatherings and travel next to impossible. Despite this significant obstacle, Faith Launch was a tremendous success and led to a follow up program called Faith Launch 2.
These two programs helped establish useful initiatives such as Faith Life Lines, Mentorships, and Faith Tools, all while delivering sessions on practical topics related to faith.
As successful as these programs were, there was a growing desire to go back to the original intent of Faith Launch, which was to harness the power of fellowship in developing faith. With this in mind a new team of WCF members are setting out to deliver an exciting, engaging and in-person program called Faith Launch Conference.
In James 2:18, Jesus’ brother writes, “But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” This short section captures the essence of what we hope to expand upon at Faith Launch Conference. Our intention is to bring 18 to 35 year olds together to meditate on, to discuss, and to plan practical ways we can invigorate our faith by being active.
The weekend will feature short presentations which will be led by Shawn and Cathie Moynihan. These sessions will be followed up with opportunities to discuss the material in relaxed and supportive groups. Participants will also be able to engage with brothers and sisters who will present their faith life lines, demonstrating practical ways their faith has developed and providing examples of how they have given back. A key component of Faith Launch Conference will be the Giving Back Planning session, where you will be able to make practical steps towards developing your own personal plan for how you can spark your faith through service activities. The weekend will also feature mentorship opportunities, musical praise, fellowship, and fun!
Faith Launch Conference also hopes to provide a time of spiritual refreshment surrounded by people who have the same goal of filling their lives with loving service before the return of our Savior.
FaithLaunch Conference is scheduled for October 27 to the 29, at Camp Hebron near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
