Water Tanks
Jesus said, “And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward” - (Matt. 10:42 NIV) This year, as in past years, the ecclesias in the Delta have faced devastating drought. The two largest ecclesias have over 50 brothers, sisters, young people and contact Sunday School scholars. As a consequence of the drought, salt water continues to encroach upon rice paddies and wells and in previously fresh parts of the river, contaminating the water supply. Again this year it was unfit for domestic use. The Red Cross was able to provide this area with only a small amount of freshwater (rationed to 20 liters per family per day). To address this need more sustainably, WCF has provided the local brethren the materials for building 1000 liter concrete tanks to store water for themselves and their neighbors.
During the drought this spring, all the tanks had been drained dry but we were able to arrange a tanker truck to haul 14,000 liters of water down from the reservoir over 280 km away to fill the 14 tanks in the delta. As drought conditions worsen each dry season, further tanks will be needed together with water haulage over the dry season months. But this adversity also brings an opportunity to demonstrate the love of Christ in a practical way. It is a “touch to teach” moment for the local brethren to share this precious resource freely with their village neighbors.
They see Christian discipleship in action and seek to understand what motivates these brothers and sisters to be so generous and caring for the needs of others. Faithfully participating in this endeavor enables us to share in the blessings as well. Our Lord reminded us that “it is more blessed to give than to receive” - (Acts 20:35 ESV). Through your generosity, we can provide our brothers and sisters a basic necessity of life, and you can look forward to a reward that will not be lost. The estimated cost for this project is $15,000 annually.
