WCF STATEMENT REGARDING VOTING AND THE FAITH ROUNDTABLES
WCF presents this round table discussion on voting and political involvement, by a group of young believers, as a means of encouraging understanding of disparate points of view on the subject, with the discussion based on Scripture.
Open discussion is crucial in today's complex cultural climate. Many leave our community of faith because they feel unheard and misunderstood. We can't let that continue. If we embrace open conversations and discussions members of our Community are far more likely to stay and remain rooted in our common faith.
These roundtables show that we do value their voice and that we want them to know we hear them and value them.
Each individual must make their own decision on political participation. Our hope is that this video will help to stimulate deeper thought on scriptural teaching on the subject and so guide faith-based discipleship.
As a Christadelphian Foundation, WCF strongly supports the historical Christadelphian position that disciples of Christ are pilgrims and sojourners in this world, citizens of a country yet to come. Accordingly, believers should not partake in any political activity. (See the recent Tiding article for further elaboration on this position: tidings.org/magazine/politics-and-the-believer)
We further caution all who are deciding on whether to participate in political elections that, historically, almost every government in the world has viewed political participation as inconsistent with being granted Conscientious Objector status as regards military service. It should also not be forgotten that Christadelphian policy and a widespread practice of abstaining from voting and any political involvement has protected many brethren in the past from persecution and jail time during times of war.
