It is a new year and a whole new adventure for us Viljoens. We have moved to Port Elizabeth where we will be preaching for the next year to come God willing. This blog is just to tell everyone a bit more of the people, environment and projects that are happening and hopefully many more to come in the year.
The church here has a couple of members, round about 50 members, there is a Sunday School of 10 – 15 children. We have our own hall that we meet in on Sunday mornings for the memorial meeting. There is also a Sunday morning Bible class before the memorial meeting. We had a brainstorming session with the members a week ago to think of ideas on how to increase visitors numbers, also ways to better the hall building and garden and then preaching opportunities. Altogether it was a good afternoon and everyone got to give their input and ideas, and the lunch was fantastic.
Every Tuesday morning, the Sisters get together at their different homes. We either listen to a recording of a talk, do the daily readings or sometimes a Sister prepares her own class. On Thursday evenings there is a Bible class that is held at the meeting hall. There are about 10 people that attend these classes. Attending at night is difficult for those members who live either far away and/or don’t have their own transportation.
Port Elizabeth has a BEC (Bible Education Centre) that has been open for a couple of years. There used to be classes run by a Brother, but he passed away last year — a big shock. At the moment, there are many people taking the offered courses; we have a few sales at the BEC. We hope to get more interest there and plan to contact the existing students to perhaps come for a study day or even get them to attend the meeting.
All together the touch and teach principle is very new to the Eastern Cape, God willing we will be able to get some more projects running to spread God’s name here in Port Elizabeth.
