Hit the ground running!
Our work at the Tswelopele Good news Centre is fast gaining momentum! The bi-weekly Saturday Bible Clubs are still going strong, with a core group of about 45 kids attending regularly. These kids also enjoyed a ‘big screen movie’ night, a monthly event which we plan to alternate with a ‘games night’. Michael’s music classes have kicked off with 1 piano student so far, and we have 5 of the youth God Willing attending the youth camp in December.
The fact that the parents of these youth are willing to let them attend a week-long camp with us (relative ‘strangers’) is a positive sign in that it shows they trust us, without which our work in the community would be futile.

We have 12 ladies already registered for the creche course starting end October. These ladies have no idea how ‘lucky’ they are not to be on a 200+ long waiting list as the ladies from Aphiwe now are! We are very excited about running the creche course from Tswelopele – not least of all because the women who have already registered have shown such incredible enthusiasm and gratitude with regards to the training they will receive.
We have seen with the Aphiwe model that this course works very well as the ‘first step’ into the community, and pray that we may have the same overwhelmingly positive results at Tswelopele.
All in a day’s work
One of the interesting aspects of doing full time outreach work is the variety of activities you get involved in. For example, you may be a carpenter/handyman (building cupboards & doors, painting, etc) a musician (teaching the piano/recorder) an animal trainer (hosting animal shows at creches) and a professor (hosting a bible seminar) – all in one day!
The centre’s enjoy the same variety – recently we had a Gr R Teacher’s Workshop, Cooking Course and Music Lessons back to back at Aphiwe.

We were very happy when our snake decided to shed just before the first animal show – and the kids enjoyed feeling the shed skin – especially the open part where the snakes mouth is.
New addition to the team
We are very excited about the imminent addition of another ‘volunteer’ to our team – granted she may not be yet be able to do any work yet – but we believe in training them young! Michael & I are looking forward to our baby daughter, due any time next week!
With love in Christ
