WF Report – August 2010
Bible Basics in Port Maria
We have a First Principles class going for the 8 weeks of summer vacation. Bulky is the teacher and we have had from 1 to 7 students in attendance three days per week. The topics are: “Who is God?”, “Who is Christ?”, “What is the Holy Spirit?” and “What is the devil and satan?” These are things that the Sunday school students have been struggling with since I’ve been here. Class meets from 10 to noon with a snack and bag juice provided for those who have arrive on time and have worked for the entire class period. We had told them up front that we would provide this class for only those who were serious. One day we had no one here until 10:30 so they got class but only a cup of cold water when they arrived and another before they hit the road at noon.
The students each took a test on the first day of class to determine what their level of understanding was. They each read passages that contain the first principles and then answer questions on what they have learned from those passages. Bulky goes over the work with each child individually to see that we have made progress with them.
Sisters Study Day in Round Hill
Sisters from six ecclesias in Jamaica and from Simi Hills, California gathered around the Word. The theme was Spiritual Maturity: Consistency, Self-Control, Forgiveness and Perseverance. This is the fourth year that study days for sisters have been held in Jamaica. Each year they are hosted by a different ecclesia. Round Hill was the host ecclesia this year. With transportation a real issue in Jamaica it is a testament to the desire of our sisters to fellowship around the word that some traveled as many as 5 hours to be in attendance. Sisters pictured above are from 5 different ecclesias.
Castleton Gardens – Spanish Town/Kingston Family Day
We have been joining the Kingston and Spanish Town ecclesias for the Family Days for the past few months. We bring Sister Enid, who is in isolation in Port Antonio, on most of these trips so that she can enjoy the fellowship of her brothers and sisters. Sister Shanna’s son LJ and her brother also joined us on this trip. (two on right)
What would an outing be without a game of football?
Roy and Beth Lansing gave a presentation on P2P Earth on Saturday August 14. Brothers and sisters from 4 local ecclesias were in attendance.
