WF Report – December 2009 to January 2010
Jamming For Jesus
We now have 3 primary schools – 2 in Lamontville and 1 in Mariannhill – on board for running a four week ‘Jamming for Jesus’ course. The first course is set to start this coming Thursday at Mariannridge Primary and we have 21 children signed up and ready to go!
The hope is that by the end of the four week course we will have established a relationship with the children that will have made them aware of some of some essential (and useful!) Bible teachings and ultimately encourage them to attend the Mariannhill Sunday School at the Good News Centre 10 minutes up the road!
One of the things that we’ve thought to be important for the children at Happy’s recently is to provide a sense of normalcy. As a result, we went in the day before Valentine’s Day and spent the day with the girls doing foot washing, massaging, moisturizing and nail painting. It was worth it just to hear one girl say, ‘Thankyou for showing us that you love us.’
The major event of the past couple of months however, was the Friday night concert we put on. We advertised the concert in advance and made it something they could look forward to as if they were going out to see a show for the night…something special. We set up the schools’ outside covered dining area as the venue with candles and lights to create a bit of atmosphere! But the atmosphere was really – as ever – provided by the kids. It was a night I will never forget which ended with everyone singing, dancing and joining together in praising God.
Mini P2P in Jo’Berg
We went up to help out with the preparations for the Tembisa Centre. What a week! We painted a mural and answered so many questions about the centre and what would be happening there that I am convinced that God will do great things there!
P2P in Durban and Candu
Our recent P2P really has been blessed by God in every way. Team ‘Joy’ really grew over the two weeks in our excitement and motivation to go out and tell people the GOOD NEWS and in our awareness of God providing and blessing, being present with us and working in every moment!
Here are just a few of many God given moments over the past couple of weeks:
HOLIDAY CLUB had been announced to begin at 10.30am and by 11.30am when no children had arrived we decided to do something about it. So myself and Esther drove around the village with the boot and all the car doors open and picked up any children we passed. The day was a massive success and we ended up having 73 children – to sing, do crafts and do Bible lessons with!
LEAFLETING takes on a whole new dimension in Candu when it takes 5 minutes to get from one house to the next. It was a lot of fun to try out my limited Xhosa! We were advertising a Bible talk and braai for the following night.
The BIBLE TALK and BRAAI. God never ceases to amaze us in the opportunities he gives and how much he provides for us, fills and edifies us, even though it is all him giving the increase. We had catered for 100. But by the end of the talk the room was packed with about 180 people! The most ever seen in Candu. Two villages had come together. It was an amazing sight and we just kept giving out the food. We fed them with food we didn’t have and there was EXACTLY the right amount. God provided.
We were also blessed to witness the baptism of SIYANDA. He really is such a valuable brother and has taught us so much with his enthusiasm for spreading the gospel and really believing in the message. He joined us back in Durban for the following week of P2P but has now returned to uni in Butterworth where he won’t be surrounded by brothers and sisters or be close to an ecclesia, he really needs our prayers and support!
LAMONTVILLE HOLIDAY CLUB started in a similar way to Candu. With no children in sight we took to the streets with a guitar and sang and played all around the block. It was very Pied Piper and when we turned around there were children literally running after us down the road. It was amazing!
CLERMONT (a township close to Westville) with new contacts Sine and Brenda is a really exciting new prospect. We are hoping to start a Sunday school and run a Sunday service there from next week as there is so much interest already there and we already have a venue…Antonio’s house (a sister from Westville meeting who’s husband left her a property right in the centre of the township!) We stood outside and sang on the street and told people about the plans and around 50 children played games with us, sang and saw a parable acted out!
BEC ‘BUSKING’ has also gone from strength to strength. The whole team headed down there for the day last week and had such an inspiring day. By the time we left 62 people had signed up for the God’s Master Plan course!
