Who are the “Kingdom Kids”? Only the kindest, most positive, “smiles-all-round”, helpful bunch of kids you could ever wish to meet. We might be a tiny bit biased of course – considering that these are “our” kids!
The Kingdom Kids get together every Tuesday (music classes), Wednesday (homework club) & Sunday (Sunday School). They also join us for Praise & Worship evenings two Fridays a month. As such we have really gotten to know them intimately, & our lives are the richer for it.
Here are some photo’s of their latest escapades:
Junior & Tumi are learning to play the guitar – they are keen to be good enough to play at the youth week in December.
Talifhani & Karabo are taking piano lessons – they are finding the theory much harder than they expected but keeping at it.
Our Wednesday Homework Club has taken on a new format where the kids learn literacy, numeracy, life skills & crafts through educational games. We focus on a different skill set every Wednesday. This has proven to be a lot of fun so far!
Anna & Karabo playing dominoes. This was the first time they had played dominoes – even though Karabo is 10 years old already.
The boys enjoyed the multiplication flashcards once we added an element of competition with a timer.
Anna created a woman with the kiddies tangram set.
Teens playing memory match for the first time – they also enjoyed it despite being very skeptical of such a “baby” game at first!
Junior created a car out of elastic bands – the red thing on the hood? A supercharger.
Enriching their vocabulary by playing “boggle” with Aussie volunteer Clare Russell.
Another word game – “30 seconds”. You have to describe the words on your card to your team without saying the actual word – within 30 seconds. They got so animated that they couldn’t even stay seated!
Craft Wednesday – woodwork time. Lexi loves watching the kids & Zante knows them all by name – often asking for them when we arrive at Adieu!
Assembling the helicopters requires concentration & attention to detail as well as the ability to follow instructions.
Another Wednesday saw us creating mosaic designs – here are Frank & Cameron with theirs.
Juniors design and pose prompted the question: “So which one is the alien?”
Girls having fun 🙂
One Wednesday a month is dedicated to the assembling of food parcels – these big smiles are not just for show – the kids genuinely enjoy helping us with this huge task.
Always ready for some fun!
