Since the last report, a lot has changed at the Eden Cafe Bible Education Centre.
Firstly, Bro. Simon Peel has passed on the mantle, and is no longer looking after the BEC full time. This is due to visa requirements. Even though he’s not there every day, he still drops by every now and then to say hello and chat to the many people with whom he has built a relationship.
A huge thank-you goes to Simon for the work and effort he has put into the project over the last 9 months. The Eden Cafe BEC has created a place for the local community to come and find the one true God. As his replacement, I am thankful to our God for giving me this opportunity to serve.
This February, on the 18th, will mark 1 year since the BEC in Morisset, NSW first opened. It has been an amazing year. The BEC (and the work surrounding the BEC) seems to have been blessed by God, as measured by the response from the local community.
If you were to walk down the main street, the majority of people you came across would know where the BEC is, or at least have heard of us and have some idea of what we are about. The community now knows that we are not just another Cafe; most who come in know we are Christian, and come in because we offer a different kind of atmosphere.
While not every person who comes through the door is looking for God, we are finding more and more people are willing to chat about what we believe, or share their lives with us, knowing that we will listen and that we care.
One recent example of this: a lady was brought to tears because of a card given to her from the BEC; a simple gesture to someone in need, but something which had a huge impact.
Another example: a young girl recently spent over an hour at the BEC sharing her troubled life, and chatting about God. We believe that God is working through us. God is still calling men and women to be a part of His amazing plan for the future.
To that end, we have just started a 5-week seminar series entitled, “Perfect Earth?”.
This series aims to go through the Bible and look at the Promises and the Hope God has given for the future. Our world is getting worse and worse; just from speaking to BEC visitors, it’s obvious that the community can see this. Hence, this Bible series aims to give a hope to people who are looking for something more than this world can offer.
So far, we have had one person to the first seminar which has been exciting; with God’s blessing, we hope to see a couple more attend the next one!
Besides the seminars, we recently held a successful Youth Night. Designed to engage the youth in the community, we were blessed with 4 young people who came along with Christadelphian friends. The night consisted of a short talk, some fun games and a delicious supper. Overall, we got involved with the youth and made a time to preach God’s message.
Vacation Care was held last month; with an average of 3 children per day, it was seen as a success. Led by our qualified teacher Hannah, Vacation Care allows us to interact with the kids in the community as well as with their parents who sit and have a coffee while the kids have fun.
Every month we run a knitting group; they are knitting rugs for Agape in Action. This activity is one more way for the community to get involved with something positive and get to know us at the same time.
Something is always happening at the BEC. God willing, we have this range of upcoming events: a family & friends night, another youth night, the seminar series continuing, and a book club.
Please remember us in your prayers. May God bless the work of all Brothers and Sisters throughout the world, as the Gospel message of salvation is spread to all corners of the globe!
With love in Christ,
Bro. Jason Jeffery
