WCF Report: Jan – Feb 2013
We arrived back in South Africa in mid January. The main focus of our stay here this year will be the further development of the Clermont Ecclesia. We are continuing the great work done by those volunteers that came before us. It is a fledgling Ecclesia that can definitely benefit from a focused presence in the community. Our primary goal initially will be the new building of the ” Mini Good News Centre. ” We finally have working plans approved and construction is currently underway on the retaining walls that are needed to help solidify the building site , and also to help with the extensive erosion problems that have plagued this site from the beginning. We have begun the process of hopefully gaining the trust of the people here and hope to continue to build that bond as the year progresses. We feel that some of the local leadership in the Ecclesia is top rate and we hope to offer them our help and support to grow Gods family here in Clermont.
Our labor force for the building project is currently two local sisters from the Clermont Ecclesia, ( Sister Nonhle, and Sister Pindhili) and Brother Siyabonga and Thabani Zuma from Mariannhill. Brother Siyabonga and Thabani worked with me last year on the Mariannhill wall project and the Durban BEC project. In addition to us building the Good News Centre we are providing valuable employment to these brothers and sisters. We will be employing more local labor as the project develops, thereby further adding to the welfare of the local community. The labor force has provided us with bank information thus ensuring very little cash will be changing hands. We have also set up accounts with relevant suppliers to also meet this need. This will also help us with our record and accounting activities. I have also met with other relevant building partners that will be assisting throughout the process.
We have had a number of meetings with the immediate locals and have conveyed our desire to,with God’s help, be a positive impact in there community.
We feel that we have the support of the people here and feel that this will grow when they witness that we are there to help.
Existing Projects :

Proposed future projects :
Lunch once every two months for ecclesial members

CUDDLE crèche upgrade

A planning meeting was held with Funo on Tuesday evening to work on future projects and the budget. It was a very successful meeting and Funo had some great ideas as to what would work in the area and what would be difficult.
Rene plans to spend a lot of time at Clermont to do some landscaping and classes to get to know members of the community. We will work very closely with Funo, Funisiwe, Mdu and other members of the local community to develop new relationships and rekindle old ones.
The Sunday School program is flourishing at the moment and Lauren Ghent and Rene has been teaching there on a regular basis.
Between unpacking, organizing the kids, planning meetings re-packing and settling down at our new accommodation, we have had some time to reflect on our plan and purpose here in Durban. Grant and I feel very strongly that we will be concentrating our efforts in the building and development of Clermont and developing relationships in the community.
Love in Christ
