Final Field Report- 5/24/2010
Much of our schedule was tentatively arranged prior to our arrival in India, via email with Tim G, Linus, Sudheer and Rajpatcham, with advice from others
Departed USA Mar 1, arrived (partly due to time difference) in Bangalore Mar 3. Spent several days adjusting to Jet Lag and settling into Bangalore Flat, buying food, etc. and getting back in touch with local Brothers and Sisters
Week ending March 14– taught at Gathering in Mandya/ Madhur- They really enjoyed the 2 Kings series, for example one class was reading 2 K 5 and (working in small groups) answering 20 questions I prepared for them and Sudheer translated.
Week ending Mar 21– A great time visiting contacts Friday, teaching “Kingdom of God” classes in Velore Saturday , then visiting the Chennai (Vepery) Ecclesia on Sunday.
Week ending Mar 28- LOTS of travel to visit and teach contacts in Palani (3 hour drive from Madurai) Friday, teaching contacts and members in Madurai Saturday (+ 2 baptisms) and then traveling to Salem for Sunday meeting.
Week ending April 4– a great KCY youth weekend in Bangalore, led by Mic & Shosh Hindmarsh, dear friends who were visiting us from Australia. Lots of extra time with the youth in the Flat
Week ending April 11- a little mid-week tourism (Mysore and Ooty with Mic & Shosh) plus a visit to Brother Rajpatcham and Sister Juliet in Metapalayam, due to his illness (Typhoid), then off north to Bhadravathi for a weekend of classes and visiting contacts
Week ending April 18– Flew to Kerala (Trissur) for a study weekend… Saturday with 1 contact, Sunday with members from several local ecclesias.
Week ending April 25– midweek attended Sister Smitha’s wedding. We were scheduled to do a Truth Camp with Rajpatcham in Metapalayam and Coimbatore, but revised that to a quieter spiritual visit from Brothers Bruce, Sudheer and Vincent to Rajpatcham and Juliet, to strengthen and encourage them. new found his health improving! God is GOOD!
Week ending May 2– lots of final preparation for the Bible Week, especially Joanie for the children;’s classes!
Week ending May 9 – Bangalore Bible week was May 3- 9. Perhaps 130+ Brothers/ Sisters/ Children. Besides teaching, we saw cobras, Bruce ruptured his Achilles tendon and now “walks with a halt”.
Week ending May 16– Mid week dinner with Andrew’s family, lots of final preparation for Kerala Bible Week, CYC in the flat followed by dinner cooked for the group by the young people.
Week ending May 23– travel to, teach at, and return from Kerala Bible Week (18- 23rd). Bruce had 5 adult classes, 4 teen classes, plus 4 other classes/ exhorts… a busy week. Joanie taught 5 classes to the 10-12 year old group. On the return trip, Bruce was “waitlisted” # 1, which means if a bench opened up, he would have a place to sleep during the overnight trip. It didn’t, so Joanie and Bruce dozed while sitting together on her bench. So Monday we slept a bit during the day.
Week ending May 30- recovering from Bible Week, lots of visiting planned with older and younger Brothers and Sisters. We planned a special final weekend with Sudheer, Rajpatcham, Juliet and Vincent… but Vincent will have gone to work in the USA by then if his passport comes through. The rest of us still plan to assemble to rejoice together for Bro. Raj’s returning health and in general to praise our Father for blessing us all to work together. On Sunday we have invited the ecclesia to stay after meeting for a meal together and group games. While she was here, Sis. Shosh Hindmarsh made a piñata for this event – it’s now full of “chocolate”, awaiting Sunday’s activities.
Note that during each week in Bangalore, we attend the Wed. evening Bible class and have frequent interaction with Sisters Martha, Krupa and Antoo who are always busy on the ground floor. We also have lots of visits from the young people of the ecclesia – always including a Bible discussion and often a meal – they’re becoming accustomed to Joanie’s western-style cooking – or at least they pretend they like it! We mentioned earlier that Andrew’s family treated us to a meal at his house. We also have been blessed with invitations from Pavi & Raju, Chaitra & Smitha, Florence, Baskar & Pramod…and many from Susan & Linus. We always treasure these times.
June 1 depart to USA, if British Airways strike and volcano ash cooperate.
Our “tentative” plans, If the Lord wills, is to go to Australia in Oct 2011 to attend the former “Mittagong” Bible week and visit loved ones in OZ, and to combine this with time in India… a visit to our Brothers and Sisters in Bangalore plus offering to teach at Bible Weeks in Hyderabad and another location(?).
We so much appreciate the love, prayers and financial help we receive from the Hyderabad and Bangalore Ecclesias (ably supported by the ACBM, where appropriate) and for WCF”s support of our personal expenses via their “White Fields” program. Most of all we are thankful for God’s blessings, the health and ability to continue this service. May our classes, counseling and fellowship bring glory to him alone, through his dear son.
Bruce and Joanie Parker
