Danger – Beware!

Dear Friends,

We would like to alert you to the threat of a chemical that is one of the most widely used chemicals today—Dihydrogen Monoxide. It is colorless and odorless. Here are just a few facts that you should consider about this potentially deadly substance.

The truth is that it is scientifically proven that Dihydrogen Monoxide kills thousands of people every year, yet the government does nothing about it. What are YOU going to do about it?

Hopefully nothing.

Dihydrogen Monoxide is water. Plain, pure water. All of the above is absolutely true including the thousands of death each year that occur due to drowning and even over-consumption of water. It is an excellent cleanser and is one of the best athletic performance enhancers of all time. The point is that it is easy to whip people into a frenzy with selective facts and a blatant appeal to the emotions. People do it all the time. It is called manipulation.

There are several examples of this in the Bible. One of the most striking examples of manipulation occurred at Lystra. Paul and Barnabas healed a man and were instantly proclaimed gods. After such a generous if misguided reception, the text mentions that “certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium” came and then “persuaded the people.” What they said is not recorded, but we certainly have enough New Testament evidence to give us a good idea of the lies that they would have told. They could have said that Paul was proclaiming another king other than Caesar. They could have lied that Paul was teaching “let us sin that grace may abound.” Perhaps they tried the same tact as Demetrius and stirred up the local icon artisans by saying that Paul was trying to take away their livelihood. Regardless of that they said, the amazing thing is that these men persuaded the men of Lystra to stone Paul whom they had just previously considered a god.

We can only be suckered into these traps if we allow it to happen. If we don’t get all the facts and make snap decisions, we are bound to be deceived. Here are some easy things you can do to avoid being taken.

“Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers.” (Titus 1:9, 10)

Have a great week,
