On the Cross Looking Down

On the Cross Looking Down
Looking down from this cross
During the darkness of the day
The nails rip at my flesh
While the price for sin I pay
The cruel crowds are mocking
Himself he cannot save
In their ignorance they do not realize
The way to the Kingdom I do pave
I quote to them from Scripture
In hopes that they might see
The torment I am facing
Was spoken long before of me
My mother watches in anguish
At me nailed to this board
Knowing this fulfills the prophecy
Thy soul shall be pierced with a sword
Come down off the cross they say
If you are the King of the Jews
Although it is in my power to do so
It is not my will I chose
Tomorrow is the Passover
When all the people eat
A lamb slain just like me today
In a type that is complete
And in three days, I will rise again
As my Father promised me
To live again to die no more
And to set all captives free
It all will soon be over
My strength is failing fast
My breathing is becoming labored
The end has come at last
In future days, I hope my friends
Will remember what was done
How I lived and how I died
So that they might live as one
So when life gets you weary
In muck and mire you drown
Just think of me stuck way up here
On this cross looking down
Have a great week!
