What To Expect in Jamaica 1. People Want to "Talk Bible" The preaching ground in Jamaica is so incredibly fertile. People know their Bibles and actually want to talk about it. You give them a pamphlet and they will read it. At the same time, there is a real hunger for truth. They don't get offended if you disagree with them doctrinally. Anyone who can give a reasonable testimony of what they believe and why they believe it will love it. 2. You Will Love the PeopleJamaicans are a warm and loving people. They like to laugh and smile. They are remarkable people with amazing attitudes in sometimes difficult circumstances. Show the adults respect and give them some attention and you will be rewarded with some great new friends. Show the children just a little bit of attention and you will be rewarded with affection and a friend for life.
There is so much work to be done that you will sleep well at night. Be prepared to get hot and tired. But be equally prepared to be rewarded with one of the richest spiritual experiences of your life. 4. You Will Have Decent Accomodations (But Not a Resort!) and Be SafeThe apartment is nice. It has tile floors, two bedrooms, a full bath, a living room, dining room and a kitchen. It is not the Sandals resort, but it is nicer than most of the homes that our brethren are living in on the island. You will be safe and comfortable there. 5. It Won't Cost Too MuchFlights between the US and Jamaica are around $300-$400. It might be a little higher or lower depending on several factors including the time of year (expect prices to be higher in the winter). Food costs are about the same as they are here in the US.
