News With profound thankfulnesss to our Lord, I would like to announce the happy news about the baptism of Miss Gaye Busaba in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on 17th February 2007. She is the fourth baptised in Cambodia since we commenced our missionary activities there. Sis Gaye is in her mid 20's, working in the household of a foreign diplomatic family. She replied to the advertisement in Cambodia Daily for a free Bible course, and I met her first in June 2006. From the outset I was highly impressed by her quest for spiritual things and enthusiasm for Bible study. She is of Thai nationality, but of Burmese Keren ethnic origin having lived in northern Thailand after being driven out of her native land in Myanmar. Since the Cambodia Bible Education Centre was established in January 2006, she has had the privilege of studying with various resident missionaries several times a week. Those who taught her include Bro Michael and Sis Miriam Hewitt, Bro James and Sis Miranda Rasmussen, Bro Jon and Sis Melinda Saxon and lately by Bro Don and Sis Una Strempel, and on occasions by short-term missionaries. Bro Don Strempel and Bro Meng Him conducted the baptism. Bro Michael Hewitt, who has returned to Cambodia for a short visit who witnessed the baptism writes: "The baptism took place down by the Mekong riverside, just to the right of the Royal Palace. The water was murky and brown, but the sun rising through the fog gave a beautiful background to the son of Righteousness rising again from the waters in the form of Sister Gaye, our newest addition to the family. Dressed in a beautiful, white Keren robe, she was immersed into the sin-covering name of our Lord Jesus Christ at about 7:00am on the 17th of February." We are witnessing very encouraging response to our activities in Cambodia with nearly 100 on our active list. Every Sunday we have an average of 30 students. There are several highly promising students who are on the verge of baptism. As the Christadelphian Bethezer Fund is establishing a dormitory project for some of our students, we could see more young people being baptised. The gospel will continue to prosper in Cambodia, with your prayerful and considerate support. We need more assistance with people and resources in Cambodia. A life saved for Christ is worth our effort. Change lives, act now. Yours in Jesus Bro Raju Devis Sydney, Australia |
